Operation Black Out

In New Zealand, the government is using their uncouth powers to enact The Copyright (Infringing File Sharing) Amendment Bill. This Bill will allow the New Zealand government to use legal means to punish those who download alleged copyright material without paying for it. Punishments for these so called "criminal acts" are severe. Some including stupendous amounts of money or ridiculous suspensions from internet usage.
Operation Black Out

Operation Green Rights

Anonymous began as an idea, an idea that unites the people of the world in the struggle for human rights and freedom. The same ideals that led to the birth of this new faction of Anonymous.

Operation Green Rights is a summary of our frustration at seeing the human race enslaved god’s money, for which commits murder, exploit and oppress people and goes against the principles of democracy and human respect that should be the basis of any modern civilized country. We have seen wars carried out for the black gold, subject peoples dictatorships convenient for trade agreements, billions spent on research and nuclear war and cut funding for research on renewable energy and oil tankers sunk that cause planetary damage. In addition, global warming, caused by these policies, it is a reality that we must be aware.

Operation Green Right

The glaciers are melting, tides rise, the ozone hole is growing, the climate changes, changing climatic conditions, animal species become extinct ... The current global policies of many large corporations and many governments are trampling on our rights and those of every other living being, only in exchange for money.

We at Operation Green Rights say stop about this!

Operation Green Rights wants for our children a life in a civilized world that welcomes them with open arms and show respect for life and nature itself. We want that Mother Earth will continue to live healthy and promoting life with its beauty. We want the exploitation of peoples and the blood spilled in the streets no longer in the name of greed.

Operation Sony fails

Yesterday over 3,000 members of Anonymous showed up in Sony retail outlets around the world in staged mass sit-ins.  Their stated intent was to raise awareness about how they could not run Linux on a Playstation, a feature Sony has removed due to problems with piracy. The group Anonymous were staging these sit-ins to defend the rights of free speech for everyone and true ownership of hardware from Sony.  Their complaint only helped salesman bring attention to new features in Sony products while customers mocked and teased them deeply. These turned out to be a free publicity gift from Anonymous to Sony.

Guy Fawkes

It appears that Anonymous’ work has once again been in vain, as several reports throughout the UK especially in London reference consumers assaulting what few protesters were present with water pistols and chucking food – this is not at all surprising given that the UK is one of the biggest consumers of the PS3 and that not many people side with what Anonymous have done thus far or even understand their cause.

This is part of a disturbing new trend for Anonymous, which seems to be increasingly ready to self-destruct all over the wrong targets. According to several reps from Sony stores it appears the actions by Anonymous increased sales for many stores with some store managers telling us that initial sales were up almost 10%. It appear  that all publicity is good publicity!
In conclusion it appears Anonymous have indeed failed once again with their Sony Operation, relating to this whole chapter it seems that they have bitten of more than they can chew and that they have very little support – indeed they are fighting a lost cause.

Operation Sony Update

Greetings, Sony Customers And PS3 Users. We are Anonymous.

During the last few days, Anonymous has been targeting Sony for their outrageous treatment of not only PS3 users and jailbreakers, but also of the general public. Their propaganda regarding jailbreaking implies that it encourages piracy and thereby makes people lose their jobs, whereas jailbreaking actually just means you are making YOUR device do what it should do. Imagine if Microsoft forced you to use Internet Explorer instead of Firefox or Chrome. Imagine if they denied users from using any other web browser than their own. Many people would obviously be pissed... but then, why aren't you pissed at Sony?

The fact that their litigation demanded information on everyone who had viewed the material, was completely unacceptable. This is a threat not only to the gaming community, but to freedom of information in general. The fact that the privacy of individuals can be violated, simply for accessing information, and legal action can be taken for doing something with something you own, are steps far beyond the line. Anonymous decided it could not allow this to stand. If jailbreaking a phone for use of legal (unsigned) apps is found legal, why would this be any different for the Geohot case, seeing as Geohot explicitly states he does not support piracy?

Anonymous is not attacking the PSN at this time. Sony's official position is that the PSN is undergoing maintenance. We realize that targeting the PSN is not a good idea. We have therefore temporarily suspended our action, until a method is found that will not severely impact Sony customers.
Anonymous is on your side, standing up for your rights. We are not aiming to attack customers of Sony. This attack is aimed solely at Sony, and we will try our best to not affect the gamers, as this would defeat the purpose of our actions. If we did inconvenience users, please know that this was not our goal.

This operation is a response to Sony's attempt to deprive their customers of products they bought and therefore own, wholly and completely. Anonymous will not attempt to fight this by following the exact same course of action. We have plenty of tricks up our sleeves.

As a last point, we would like to point out that different operations are "run" by different people. Those who are involved in the organization of OpSony, are not necessarily those involved in that of SonyRecon. Anonymous Operations are generally independent efforts, and it would be a mistake to assume that the same individuals are responsible for every action taken. Anonymous is comprised of people with diverse points of view, of which not all coincide with one another.

That being said, our campaign against Sony and others that would trample on the idea of free information will continue, until we are satisfied with the outcome.

We are Anonymous,

We are legion,

We never forgive,

We never forget,

Expect us.

Operation Payback: Operation Sony

Operation Sony
#OpSony

Summary: The Sony PS3 console was "hacked" or more appropriately, jailbroken, by iPhone hacker, Geohot.
He managed to reverse engineer his own Playstation 3 to run homebrew applications on it.
And then later released the method to the public, through his site, geohot.com
Sony hit him with a lawsuit and demanded social media sites, including YouTube to hand over IP addresses of people who visited Geohot's social pages/videos.
Paypal have granted access to Sony for them to view Geohot's PayPal account.
The judge of the case has given permission to Sony to view the IP addresses of everyone who visited geohot.com
Sony are also after another group of hackers for the same case.
The PS3 hack which GeoHot released can be compared to the "unlocking" of a phone.
i.e. Once you purchase the phone, it's yours, you can do whatever it is you want with it.

Lawsuit Timeline:
January 11, 2011 - Sony sues GeoHot and others, on 8 claims, including violation of the DMCA, computer fraud, and copyright infringement.
January 27, 2011 - Sony's request for a temporary restraining order (TRO) was granted by the US District Court for the Northern District of California. This forbade him from distributing the jailbreak, helping or encouraging others to jailbreak, and distributing information they've learned during the creation of the jailbreak. It also ordered him to turn over computers and storage media used in the creation of the jailbreak to Sony's lawyers.
March 6, 2011 - The court issued an approval that Sony's lawyers were allowed access to all the IP addresses of all the people who visited geohot's blog

Lawsuit Claims:
Violating the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
Violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act
Contributory copyright infringement
Violating California Comprehensive Computer Data Access and Fraud Act
Breach of Contract (related to the PlayStation Network User Agreement)
Tortious interference
Misappropriation
Trespass

What needs to be done and why:
We can not, and will not allow Sony to censor information. If we purchase something, it is ours, we can do what we like with it. GeoHot specifically jailbroke the PS3 to enable the use of homebrew applications, piracy was not possible with GeoHot's exploit, not that it would matter anyway.
It is the duty of Anonymous to help out this young lad, and to protest against Sony's censorship.
The objective of this operation is to DDoS Sony's websites, as a form of protest.
We need media outlets to comment on these DDoS's and why they're taking place.
Taking down Sony sites will create a shitstorm of news reports.
Remember, prevention is the best cure. If companies can get away with doing this today, imagine what they'll be able to do in the future. It's better to be pissed OFF, than pissed ON.

  1. jailbreaking the iphone is legal, and a challenge to the court was rejected
  2. the xbox360 modder case was also dismissed, and both geohot and 360 modder are charged with the same "crime," a violation of the DMCA that is questionable at best.
  3. Geohot is in CIVIL court, not criminal court
  4. the judge is trying to move the trial from new jersey, where geohot lives, to California, where Sony knows there are more right leaning judges to hear the case
  5. geohots mod only re-enabled the option to install Linux, a feature that was present when the system was purchased.
  6. geohot never signed into the PlayStation network with his PS3, and never agreed to the terms of service that changed AFTER he already purchased the system

Where do we start?
Sony is a very hard target to DDoS, and due to the current firepower we have, we cannot take out their bigger sites.
Luckily for us, Sony have many other smaller sites.
DDoS'ing each of these will attract a lot of attention and more users to the network.
For each site we take down of theirs, our firepower will increase.
When we have hundreds in the hive, we'll go for the massive targets.

Targets:
1. www.sonypictures.co.uk
2. www.sony-europe.com

NOTE: I Don't know if this has been brought to attention before, but as yet another form of censorship, Sony's Blue ray player in the PS3 now mutes the audio of any burned CD/DVD, meaning when you watch a movie... about 20 mins in, the audio will Mute and a message will come up saying it has been muted due to copyright laws.

This ties in to operation Payback and I think it should be brought to attention. May help get people in the hive.
